I'll have the cake with

a cherry lavender on top.

Fairy Cake with lavender icing.

Yesterday, a small group from Hitchin Stitchin' met at Hitchin Lavender Farm for a couple of hours knitting with tea and cake.

As there was no Victoria Sponge on offer, two of us opted for a small sponge cake topped with lavender icing - yummy, I mean really yummy.

Of the four of us, three had never visited the lavender farm before, so I took them on a tour of the lavender fields before we settled down to tea and coffee (free refills) and cake.

Joyce brought a newspaper cutting about the banning of a group of knitters from their local library to us.

Knitting Group Banned
"A knitting group that creates replic anatomical parts for trainee NHS midwives .... is no longer allowed to meet at a library because its needles are dangerous and its members are too noisy"

We discussed whether Hitchin Stitchin' would have survived and grown to the size it is now had we first met in the library.

Despite the fact that the lavender was almost finished and the sunflowers a tad rain-battered, we really enjoyed our visit and agreed it would be good to visit again next year when both crops are in flower.
